Drummoyne 1st grade prepared for a tough, expansive game against Knox’s Old Boys, knowing that Knox’s like to run the ball from deep in their own half, and use quick line outs to keep the pressure on. Our boys were definitely up for the task and took some early opportunities, with the thinking that Knox’s would be a little rusty, due to a bye in week one, and that it was important for us to put early points on the board.

Three first half tries out wide and a conversion gave us a nice 17 point lead, however Knox’s fought back late in the half scoring an opportunist try after Drummoyne failed to clear the ball from our own in goal accurately.

Drummoyne returned into the second half with a 17-7 lead, pushing for a bonus point try. Some sustained pressure from Knox after the break kept the team working hard with some gutsy defence, with everyone working together for the common cause.

We eventually worked our way into some possession and were able to build some nice attack with sustained pressure to claim the bonus point try. Special mention to our front row who came in late after some last minute unavailability.

The boys dug very deep and worked hard for each other around the park, solid defence wins games and we again lead the table in defence after two rounds. It’s about attitude. and this team has loads of good spirit and camaraderie.
