Always a tricky game Drummoyne v Mosman in 1st Grade, especially on Ladies and Veterans day. The boys were thrown out due to the early start, lets hope it was a one off.

Mosman came out all guns blazing and seemed to have all the ball in the first 25 minutes – it’s the same old with Drummoyne 1st grade, we suck up pressure, work our defence system like clockwork, then pounce on our opportunities as quick as jack flash, or perhaps Hong Kong Fui – who is quicker than the human eye, before you know it we have two tries and are in control.

Teams must really struggle to understand how we do it year after year, new players, new season, new balls. If you want to beat Drummoyne on our home pitch, you must be willing to play for 80 minutes, no less, and that’s because our defence, was again a highlight. 17 phases Mosman had at one stage; they advanced 10 metres forward, we tackled and tackled, no penalties, and then turned the ball over. To the team, this is what we coach for, this what we train for, and why we enjoy playing the great game of rugby. Well done.

Unfortunately Mosman had both props injured which turned the scrums into uncontested which made things a little hard at set piece. Half time was 12-3 which was a fantastic effort considfering we had 20% of the ball; take your chances when they present and things will happen.

Second half turned into an arm wrestle with Drummoyne scoring an early try, then Mosman bouncing back with a try straight away to have the game locked a 19-10. The game then became a tight affair with both teams having some chances. Great effort to our reserves and 2nd grade players coming off the bench, it’s great to have such depth sitting on the side line that we can call on, you all made a real difference when coming on.

A special mention to number 7 Corey Luyten, who also had an outstanding game and was given 3 points from the old timers on the hill for player of the day.
