Match Report

Taplin Oval was in pristine condition for the match despite the week of rain and the team used the conditions to their advantage early with a try to winger Zech Browden scoring an early try to take the lead. The team continued to dominate possession and territory for the first quarter of the match and some simple handling errors cost them some potential scoring opportunities.

Knox worked their way into Drummoyne territory and eventually scored under the posts to take a 7-5 lead. Winger Luke Maybank was next to score after a well worked set piece move from a lineout put him in the position to score an unconverted try in the corner. Knox hit back soon after to take a 14-10 lead into half time.

Knox came out strongly in the second half and some poor first up tackling allowed them easy metres over the gain line and they took a 21-10 lead with a try through the forwards. Drummoyne finally got back on the scoreboard with tries to fullback Tom Stephenson and lock Nick Stephenson to take a slim 22-21 lead. A soft try by Knox from a basic error from Drummoyne and they edged ahead 26-22.

Some great play from Drummoyne gave them a number of opportunities to score, but a couple of errors right on the try line stopped them from scoring.  A late long range penalty by Knox gave them a 29-22 win.

Overall the attack was strong and should have produced more points, however the handling errors and first up tackling were not at a high enough standard to take the win. The team will be refocusing this week on a big match up with St Pats, who they narrowly beat in the first round.
