Playing Mosman away is up there with one of the toughest fixtures of the year. 4th and 3rd grade had two outstanding victories, while colts and 2nd grade were extremely unlucky to both lose by less than a score. 1st grade played put a very physical and scrappy 19-19 draw, although this result goes a long way in consolidating a position in the top two.
The scoring in 1st grade opened with a penalty goal to the Whales after we failed to re-gather from the kick off. The scores were quickly back to 3-3 after a build-up of pressure inside Mosman’s 22 resulted in a penalty being rewarded. The Whales replied with another penalty goal with another poorly executed kick off reception, an area of opportunity which we can look to improve on in the coming weeks. Mosman continued to pile on the pressure before Zech pulled off one of the biggest plays of the day, with a 50m intercept try. Mosman bounced back with a try under the posts after a lost ball at the line out.
Mosman commenced scoring in the 2nd half pushing the lead out to 6. Drummoyne were unlucky not to score a 2nd try, with Teddy pulled down within a metre of the line after another 50m intercept. A great show of athleticism though by the front rower. Giles soon brought the score line back to three with another penalty goal. The Dirty Reds heaps on the pressure during the final ten minutes but were unable to crack the Whales try line. A big scrum effort in the final minutes resulted in a penalty in front and the scores were tied at 19-19 at full time.
The Black tie ball is fast approaching on Saturday the 22nd of August after our final round fixture against Brothers. Tickets can be purchased online or in cash via the social Committee.
