Match Report

It was a much better build up to the game after being soundly beaten last week by Balmain. A number of player back from injury and almost a full complement at training meant the team had a positive feeling going into the match.

An early penalty gave us the opportunity to have a lineout near the opposition’s line, which led to a rolling maul and a try by prop Benn Sykes. Another try was followed by flanker Tom Pashley, who had been in outstanding form before being injured a couple of weeks ago. The half time score was 10-0 to Drummoyne.

The second half started well with a lot phases being built. Fullback Tom Stephenson kicked ahead and the ball was re-gathered by winger Tom D’Arbon who scored a try, which was converted by Stephenson, giving us a 17-0 lead.

Flanker Shane Hassett, who had been dynamic all day, made a line break before performing a chip and chase over the defence, re-gathering and scoring next to the posts, again converted by Stephenson, taking the score to 24-0.

With the bonus point already achieved, the intensity dropped and mistakes crept into the game, with a penalty try being conceded at the end of the match, which meant the game finished with a 24-7 win.

There were some really good performances by the players, in particular Shane Hassett, who was called up at the last minute and showed his class in attack and defence. Centre Andy Summerton was everywhere, Rob Clarke made some great metres down the wing and Benn Sykes led from the front, dominating his opposite number and made a mountain of tackles.

It was great to get a win after dropping two games over the last week.  It is critical that we win the next few games to get back into the top four and cement our spot there.
