Petersham opened the scoring with an early penalty after attacking our line for a number of phases, then kicked a penalty to take a 0-3 lead. We struck back with a penalty from scrum half Luke Battenbough to even the scores at 3-3. The following kickoff resulted in potentially the try of the year. French flanker Simon Etheve took the kickoff, was tackled and popped the ball to Captain and number eight Sam Roach, who offloaded to flanker Corey Luyten. Luyten then broke the line and sprinted for 20 metres before handing the ball off to lock Reuben Brock.

Brock was tackled 20 metres from the line and popped the ball from the ground to Luyten so score the converted try. Petersham kicked a late penalty goal to close the half with Drummoyne leading 13-6.

Early in the second half, Lock Ed Kell stole a lineout on the Petersham line and Prop Tevita Veikoso barged his way over the line to score after multiple phases close to the line. Winger Jimmy Vuniwa scored next after outpacing the defence following a long passage of play that involved a kicking duel. Replacement centre Lachlan Jackson scored in the corner to complete a 28-6 bonus point win.

This was a great win after having two weekends off and kept the team at the top of the table. The forward pack was outstanding throughout the game, in particular Brock, Etheve and Roach, who terrorized the opposition in attack and defence. Sadly, Simon Etheve is moving to Canada and will not play for the rest of the season. He’s been fantastic for the club over the last few years and we wish him well.

We take on Colleagues at their home ground on Saturday and will be expecting them to come out fired up to try and inflict our first defeat for the season.
