Drummoyne 17 d St Patricks 7
Drummoyne Colts came into the game against St Pats knowing that nothing but a win would do. Coming off the back of two tough defeats, the boys knew that a good performance and win would get the team back on track.
The game started in familiar fashion with Drummoyne starting slow out of the blocks. St Pats enjoyed passages of early possession and converted this into a 7 pointer. Drummoyne responded well, showing how dangerous they can be when they aspire to keeping the ball and creating space. Coupled with some dominance at the breakdown and one on one collisions, and some outstanding pressure on the opposition’s line, Drummoyne scored two tries to take a slender lead into the break.
The second half saw the replacements make an impact in the game, helping to keep the intensity levels up. St Pats continued to try and dominate in Drummoyne’s midfield but some outstanding defence and commitment saw this nullified. Opportunities arose for Drummoyne by turning defence into attack, leading to further scoring opportunities.
Drummoyne finished the game strong and will take a lot of confidence from the match leading into next week’s clash against Knox. A big week of training and a disciplined approach to the winning the contact area will hold the keys to success.
Drummoyne Colts would like to thank Jonno Sage for his assistance mid-week at training, (and for running touch for the game). There is no doubt that a good Thursday training session was crucial to a good performance on match day.
